UPMA KOZHUKATTAI (உப்புமா கொழுக்கட்டை )

This is one of my granny's (ammachi) special dish. Often she used to prepare and give it for us in evening time..still Its special taste remains in my memory..One important things is make a kolukattai only when the upma is hot.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Rava
  • Green chilli
  • Ginger
  • Mustard
  • Chana dal
  • Minced onion
  • salt& water

Method:
  1. In a frying pan, add 1 tablespoon oil.
  2. Add Mustard,chana dal,chilli and ginger. When all these starts popping add onion.
  3. Add 2 cups of water for 1 cup of rava with salt.
  4. When water starts boiling, add rava little by little and mix well.
  5. When mixture become thick turn off the flame. After ten minutes,start to make a small oval shaped balls by using this rava dough. (If it is more hot touch it with little cold water)
  6. Place the oval shaped balls in idly plates and steam it.
  7. Steam it for 10 minutes. Serve hot with your favourite chutneys.
